Professional Experience

Catherine was most recently the founding partner of the Law Office of Catherine B. Sheehy, which she started in 2014. Prior to running her own firm, Catherine was Of Counsel at Carter, Ledyard & Milburn LLP in their nationally recognized Trusts & Estates Group, where she began as a summer associate in 2005. In 2004 she clerked for Honorable Joseph A. McLaughlin, a judge on the United States Court of Appeals, 2nd Circuit.

As a trusts and estates lawyer, Catherine enjoys taking the time to understand each individual client’s unique needs, assets, goals, and family circumstances. Her practice includes advising clients on all aspects of wealth transfer planning, including the formation of wills and trusts, guidance related to federal and state estate tax regulations, implementation of philanthropic strategies, formation and governance of tax-exempt entities, and preparation of health care proxies, living wills, and powers of attorney.

She also has extensive experience administering estates and trusts and takes pride in sensitively and efficiently helping clients navigate the many issues that can arise. Her practice includes: Surrogate’s Court matters including probate; handling federal and state estate tax proceedings; marshaling, valuation, sale, and settlement of estate assets; estate and trust accountings; consignment agreements for art and antiques; preparation of estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax returns; post-mortem estate planning; trust decantings; and removal, resignation, and appointment of fiduciaries.

Catherine currently lives in Westchester with her husband and four children.
